Sweegen celebrates winning Food Tech Innovation Award at Fi Europe 2022 in Paris
Wellness ingredients innovator, Sweegen, won the Food Ingredients Europe (Fi Europe) Food Tech Innovation Award 2022 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles on December 6. Sweegen was awarded for its novel bioconversion process for the production of Bestevia® Reb M, the first new stevia ingredient produced via a new production technology to be approved for use in the European market by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
“Sweegen is leading in the future of wellness in food and drink in Europe, demonstrated by our rapid innovation in application development.” “Our technology and expertise enable customer-focused solutions in our U.K. Innovation Studio, where we collaborate with European brands to create regional consumer-winning food and beverages.”
In July 2021, Sweegen’s footprint in Europe became stronger after the European Union Commission published its approval of Sweegen’s non-GMO Signature Bestevia Reb M for use in food and beverages.
“Sweegen’s Reb M approval broadens the product developer’s toolkit for sugar alternatives to reimagine food and drink, opening new doors for creating healthy products for consumers.”
At Fi Europe 2022, Sweegen showcased its Taste Modulation Flavors, Signature Sweetener Systems, Taste Blazer Full Solutions, and new liquid stevia, Bestevia® LQ, through three days of unique immersive sweet and savory experiences. Show attendees tasted the menu featuring Sweegen’s sugar reduction technology in everyday foods, tailored to the European market, created in collaboration with Sweegen’s Culinary Ambassador, Chef Kaimana Chee. The food and beverage demos reduced the sugars commonly found in simple foods such as sauces, syrups, and drinks. They were designed to inspire brands to improve the wellness profile of products, add active ingredients to make wellness claims, or create entirely new product formats without compromising taste.
Sweegen’s Global Director of Sweetener Innovation, Daria Nalewajek, shared her industry insights as a day one speaker in her presentation “Make Sugar Reduction Less Frustrating – New Innovations That Will Help.” Attendees had an opportunity to immerse themselves in a holistic approach to sugar reduction by learning about industry-leading tools and techniques that can help brands navigate the growing demand for reduced-sugar foods and beverages.
“Our global Sweegen team is thrilled to be recognized for our important contribution of new generation sweeteners to the ingredients space.” “We’ve ushered in the new hero for sugar reduction in Europe, Signature Bestevia Reb M, and we will continue bringing our wellness ingredient technologies to Europe for inspiring brands to make better-for-you foods and beverages.”
On the heels of winning the award, Sweegen also announced growth capital investments, spurring investor interest and a manufacturing partnership with Sumitomo Chemical Co., further building momentum with global regulatory approvals and customers’ product launches.
